On August 30, 2016, Hernandez was revealed as one of the celebrities competing on season 23 of Dancing with the Stars.
She was partnered with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and after much effort, they won the well-deserved mirrorball trophy.
Reacting to her victory she said “I just want to thank everyone for their support and riding along this crazy roller coaster of my life. And, my goal is just to inspire others as I go on with my journey, and thanks for being there for me.“

Lauren Zoe “Laurie” Hernandez is an American artistic gymnast, born on June 9, 2000. She competed as a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning gold in the team event and silver on the balance beam.
And she is the daughter of Wanda and Anthony Hernandez who lives in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey.
The 16-year-old represented the United States in 2016 Rio de Janeiro balance team.

The winner of Dancing With The Star’s season 23 – Hernandez’s gymnastics career started in 2012 at the U.S. Classic, where she placed 11th in the junior division at the age of 12.
Through the Classic, she qualified for the National Championships in St. Louis, where she placed 21st after two days of competition.
Interestingly, Hernandez made her senior debut in 2016. In March, and she competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Jesolo, Italy, earning the bronze medal in the all-around with a score of 58.550, behind two U.S. teammates.
She also got a silver medal on vault and a gold medal on balance beam, ahead of Smith and 2012 Olympian Aly Raisman.
On August 7, Hernandez competed in the Women’s Qualification at the 2016 Summer Olympics where the top 8 placing teams get to advance to the Team All-Around Finals.
Hernandez scored a 15.200 on the vault, a 15.366 on the balance beam, and a 14.800 on the floor exercise, qualifying to the balance beam event finals.
On August 15 during Event Finals, Hernandez won a silver medal on the Balance Beam with a score of 15.333. She came ahead of teammate Simone Biles, who placed 3rd with a score of 14.733 and behind Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands, who won gold.
And on November 22, 2016, she emerged the winner of Dancing With the stars mirrorball trophy.
Happily, Laurie is not hanging up her dancing shoes just yet. As the winner of Dancing With The Stars Trophy She will be a part of the Dancing with the Stars tour.
Dancing With The Stars Grand Finale
During the last night’s grand finale, all the contestants from the season returned to perform, along with their pro partners. Vanilla Ice, Andy Grammer, Jana Kramer and Babyface each sang on the finale episode. Plus, bloopers from the season were shown, along with memorable moments for this season’s journey.
Meanwhile, the finalists carried out performances they enjoyed this season while the pro dancers also performed.
Also, after the repeated performances, each of the finalists had to perform a 24-hour fusion routine.
Remember that the 24-hour dances are routines that each contestant and their pro come up with the night before the grand finale.
Indeed, It is worthy to note that Laurie Hernandez and partner Val Chmerkovskiy led Monday’s field by scoring 38 for their redemption Paso Doble and a perfect 40 for their freestyle set to the song “Brand New” by Ben Rector.
And at the end of their performance, they had a cumulative total of 78 points which automatically earned the gymnast’s a place among the three finalists after Jana Karmer was eliminated that Monday night.
