See First Female South African Idols Winner
By becoming the Idols SA 2016 winner, the 22year-old Noma Khumalo has broken the jinx by emerging as the first woman ever to win the Idols SA.
Khumalo brought to an end the seven-year male reign in the competition when on November 28, 2016, she was announced the winner of the Idols SA 2016 after the show gathered about 83 million votes.
Idols SA 2016 grand finale took place at Carnival City on Sunday night.
After being crowned the Idols SA 2016 winner, Khumalo cruise home with a prize package worth R1.2m and a recording contract with Gallo Record Company.
Speaking after her victory, the Idols SA 2016 winner, Noma stated thus: ” I was in shock, I didn’t know that I was announced as the winner. It only kicked in when I started crying.”
She continued “I didn’t know that I was going to win. I honestly didn’t see it coming, because you just focus on your performances and doing them well. You don’t think about the results,” said the idols SA 2016 winner.
She further pledged “I feel like the support I’ve been getting has been absolutely phenomenal. And moving forward, I don’t think I will disappoint my supporters. I’ve been shown so much support throughout my journey and I’m very thankful.”
Also, following a keenly contested race against rival, Thami Shobede, the substitute teacher was announced the ultimate Idol.
But sadly, the end of Idols season 12, 2016 also means the end of one of its judges Gareth Cliff as he has concluded plans to pursue his business interests.
Meanwhile, Idols SA 2017 will soon begin in earnest as the dates and cities for season 13 auditions have already been fixed.

The Cities and dates for the Idols SA 2017 are thus:
- 14 January – Cape Town
- 21 January – Pretoria
- 28 January – Durban
- 4 February – Johannesburg
The Idols SA is a television show on the South African television network M-Net, based on the popular British show Pop Idol. The American Idol is the US version of the show.

How Idols SA Winners Emerge
Viewers are allowed several hours following the broadcast of the show to vote by phone, SMS or online for their favourite contestant. On the following night’s episode, the contestant(s) with the fewest votes is sent home, while those remaining will advance to the next stage.
